JunkMail screenshotMail provides a junk mail filter that automatically identifies and handles junk mail. The filter’s default settings catch most of the junk messages you receive, but you can customize it as you need.

To change the junk mail filter:

  • Choose Mail > Preferences, and then click Junk Mail.
  • Specify which actions Mail should perform when junk mail arrives:
  • When you want to verify what the Mail is identifying as junk mail, select the “Mark as junk mail, but leave it in my Inbox” checkbox.
  • When you are sure the filter accurately identifies junk mail, select the “Move it to the Junk mailbox” checkbox.
  • To set up other actions, select the “Perform custom actions” checkbox and then click the Advanced button. In the dialog that appears, click Add (+) buttons to add conditions and actions. To remove a condition or action, click its Remove (-) button.

Keeping Mailboxes Reasonably Sized

Posted by Clayton Lewis on under Blog Articles, Mac Tips | Be the First to Comment

Apple Mail’s InBox is easier to work with if you keep it from getting too large. Here are ways to keep your InBox reasonably sized:

  • Create more mailboxes to organize your messages.
For example, if you have messages related to a specific person or subject such as travel plans, you could create a mailbox called Travel and move travel-related messages to that mailbox.
  • Use rules to automatically move incoming messages from your InBox to mailboxes you created.
For example, you could create a rule to automatically move new travel-related messages to the Travel mailbox as they arrive. You can create rules to process messages already in mailboxes.
  • Delete old messages you no longer need, especially those with large attachments.
  • Save attachments to your computer and then delete the attachments from messages.

Why Use Open Type Fonts?

[From The Apple Pro Tips site]

One of the oldest myths in desktop publishing is “never use TrueType fonts for professional publishing.” Perhaps that was true in the early 90’s, but there’s no reason to avoid them now. However, there’s an even better type of font format you should be using: OpenType. OpenType fonts are great for a number of reasons:

Lithium batteries to be banned from air luggage

Posted by Clayton Lewis on under ALERTS!!, Blog Articles, News, Announcments & Rumors | Be the First to Comment

An article on the Electronista website states that airline travelers will no longer be able holdairplane icon loose lithium batteries in their luggage, the US Department of Transportation says.

They key word here is “loose”. That means that folks that carry extra batteries for their laptop, phone, camera, etc will have to place them in a plastic bag and put them in their carry-on, similar to the liquid ban and there is a limit of two batteries per passenger. Otherwise the batteries need to be inserted into your device as normal use dictates.

R.I.P – Netscape

Posted by Clayton Lewis on under Blog Articles, News, Announcments & Rumors | Be the First to Comment

Netscape LogoAOL has decided to end development and support for Netscape according to this MacWorld article.

And I say… good riddance.

Sorry, Netscape IMO, has been the absolute WORST browser/email program for the Mac. I’ve been supporting Mac users for years and I’ve continued to recommend other solutions instead of Netscape. Now don’t get me wrong, back in the early days of Netscape (OS 8 and OS 9) I could tolerate it and honestly there wasn’t much of a choice for us back then… Internet Explorer (ick) or Netscape (ugh). (I was happy to see IE get taken off the dance card a couple years ago as well.)

  • Mac OS X Dock
  • the Finder
  • grammar checking
  • iCal
  • iChat

  • Parental Controls
  • Quick Look
  • Rosetta

Again, just a rumor but it is inevitable that we should be seeing 10.5.2 soon regardless of the rumor sites.

RUMOR: iPhone 1.1.3??

Posted by Clayton Lewis on under Blog Articles, News, Announcments & Rumors | Be the First to Comment

I’m not one to bet $$ on speculation and the Apple rumor mill, but I just came across something very interesting. As an iPhone user and lover I found a posting on the Apple Insider that hints at a new version of the iPhone software might be close at hand with some very cool enhancements. There seem to be some rather convincing photos on Flickr.

  • Multiple SMS Recipients.
  • Google Maps – Locate Me and new buttons
  • Rearange icons on Home screen and lower tray

Again, just a rumor and the post didn’t specify a release date… But nonetheless interesting.
