picture-191As expected, Apple released the latest and greatest version if iWork this year at MacWorld, iWork ‘09. This collection of apps is the perfect replacement for those of you who are tired of shelling out big bucks for Microsoft’s Office suite and best of all.. iWork ‘09 is completely compatible with Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.

Today we’ll look at Pages ‘09

Pages ‘09 is iWork’s page layout program. A very simple and intuitive program that lets you design your own newsletters, brochures, flyers or type simple letters. What’s new in this update?

  • Full Screen View – Clear the clutter and view your document without all the distractions. With a click, distractions instantly disappear and your words become the most important thing on the screen.
  • Dynamic Outline Creation – It’s easier to write when your ideas are structured. The new Outline mode helps you organize your thoughts so your writing stays on track.
  • Mail Merge with Numbers – Now it’s even easier to address invitations, create invoices, personalize letters, and build mailing lists. Mail merge works directly with a Numbers table or Address Book
  • Enhanced Template Chooser – Find inspiration for your writing or design project even faster. Over 180 Apple-designed templates are included — professional letters, detailed lab reports, beautiful cards, modern flyer layouts, and more.
  • Math Type and EndNote - In Pages ’09, you can now create sophisticated equations for research papers, lab reports, and journal articles using MathType 6.1 Compose your equations with the MathType point-and-click equation editor and instantly add them to your Pages document. Pages also works with EndNote X2.1 Choose from over 3800 bibliographic styles supported by EndNote X2 and easily insert citations into your Pages document.
  • More Ways to Share – Share your Pages documents with anyone on a Mac or PC. You can open Microsoft Word files in Pages and save your Pages documents as Word files. Thanks to powerful graphics tools in Pages, it’s easy to make Word documents look great. Pages also lets you export your documents as PDF files.

Macworld is just around the corner… and so is Daylite Touch. At the show you’ll be able to see an essentially feature complete version. They’ll have demo stations setup and they’ll be there to answer questions. Check out this interview with AJ on G-Whiz. They also have a host of informative seminars lined up.

Presentations with Special Guests

Learn from the masters. Special Guest Wayne Pepper of the David Allen Company will be presenting a special GTD session on Wednesday and Thursday at 2:00 pm. We’ll also have Dax Dasilva – CEO of Xsilva, Grant Cowie – CEO of Cognito, Frank Blome – CEO of ProjectWizards and Todd Salkovitz – MYOB Product Evangelist making special appearances.

The Macworld crew including our CEO, Alykhan Jetha(AJ) will be there as well. They’d love to meet you.

Check out the full schedule and get your discount pass in Marketcircle’s Macworld page.

Visit them at Booth #2438 in the South Hall and find out how to fit your business in your pocket.

(I, unfortunately, will not be able to attend MacWorld 2009 and witness the ending of an era.)

Tis the Season for the Mac Giving Tree

Free software is ALWAYS COOL.

LifeHacker reports…

Semi-controversial Mac software bundle site MacHeist has gone the free route this holiday season, offering up to six different shareware Mac apps for the price of a free registration with MacHeist through the Mac Giving Tree. As soon as you sign up you can download iTunes remote Synergy and video game Enigmo 2, while you’ve got to wait until Christmas day to open two others. Yet two other free but undisclosed options are unwrappable if you refer a friend. In the past we’ve suggested free alternatives to MacHeist bundles, but since this one’s free to begin with that’s not really necessary.

Ok.. this isn’t “hot off-the-press” since it’s been out for a couple weeks but I’d thought some folks might not have seen this yet.

Just a reminder: This new build of Daylite will need a schema upgrad to the database and all OFFLINE databases need to be synced BEFORE you upgrade and all OFFLINE databases should be recreated afterwards.

New Features:

Reminder Changes: Reminders have been completely reworked, allowing for unlimited reminders for any user on any appointment and task. This also resolves sync problems associated with multiple reminders on an appointment or task that were encountered by some users. Reminders on repeat appointments are also properly supported now.

  • Resolves syncing issues with iCal alarms.
  • Allows unlimited reminders for appointments and tasks to be created by any user.
  • Allows automatic creation of default reminders when accepting appointments and when appointment/task is delegated or assigned.
  • Improved import and export of appointments/events containing reminders to/from iCal.

Task changes: Some options for tasks have been reworked to simplify and enhance the management of tasks.

Added a new “Inbox” for tasks. You can manually add tasks to the inbox for reviewing and processing them later. You can do this by selecting the “Inbox” checkbox in a task card or dragging tasks to the Inbox in your Source list pane. In the Default Values pane of Daylite Preferences, you can select whether you wish to add all new tasks to the inbox.
