picture-151

Ok.. this isn’t “hot off-the-press” since it’s been out for a couple weeks but I’d thought some folks might not have seen this yet.

Just a reminder: This new build of Daylite will need a schema upgrad to the database and all OFFLINE databases need to be synced BEFORE you upgrade and all OFFLINE databases should be recreated afterwards.

New Features:

Reminder Changes: Reminders have been completely reworked, allowing for unlimited reminders for any user on any appointment and task. This also resolves sync problems associated with multiple reminders on an appointment or task that were encountered by some users. Reminders on repeat appointments are also properly supported now.

  • Resolves syncing issues with iCal alarms.
  • Allows unlimited reminders for appointments and tasks to be created by any user.
  • Allows automatic creation of default reminders when accepting appointments and when appointment/task is delegated or assigned.
  • Improved import and export of appointments/events containing reminders to/from iCal.

Task changes: Some options for tasks have been reworked to simplify and enhance the management of tasks.

Added a new “Inbox” for tasks. You can manually add tasks to the inbox for reviewing and processing them later. You can do this by selecting the “Inbox” checkbox in a task card or dragging tasks to the Inbox in your Source list pane. In the Default Values pane of Daylite Preferences, you can select whether you wish to add all new tasks to the inbox.

Daylite 3.7.2 Update

Posted by Clayton Lewis on March 27, 2008 under Blog Articles, Daylite Tips | Be the First to Comment

It’s been a few weeks since my last post but I wanted to let everyone know about the new Daylite 3.7.3 update. Just know that this update can co-exist with other Daylite users running 3.7 and 3.7.1. So testing this update on your network is simple before rolling it out to your other users. I’ve added a few screencasts and screenshots to demonstrate a few of the new features

Here is a list of the added features:

  • Daylite 3.7.2 comes with a new law database template.
    • The law template is designed to enable lawyers, attorneys, and legal professionals understand how Daylite can simplify their workflow and organize their information.
    • It covers all the stages of case management including the first contact with a client to the final billing process. You can completely customize the template and how you work with Daylite.
    • The template consists of sample data (such as projects, pipelines, forms, activity sets, categories, keywords, roles, relationships and many more information about the legal profession) that can help you with setting up your real cases in Daylite, grouping information for easy retrieval, and improving productivity.
  • Added calendar view selection support to the details pane in lower right.

  • Added scrolling of appointment list in the Calendar month view.

  • Resources will now be shown at the end of the Users & Resources list in the Calendar view.

  • Added the ability to include resources in Smart Calendars.
  • Added the ability to print Smart Calendars that include resources.
  • Added the details field to the selected opportunity when viewed from the main window.
  • Ability to add a “stage number” column to Opportunities and Projects in the column mode.
  • Merging now works for MS Word 2008, for both .doc and the new .docx format.
  • Merging now works for MS Excel 2008, for both the .xls and the new .xlsx format.
  • Improved speed considerably for merging with Word and Office 2008 versions.
  • Added help button to Reports and Print Layouts sheets.
  • Made time input fields in the appointment window and meeting scheduler more tolerant of non-standard formats and localizations.
  • Offline sync failure dialogue now gives more information about the cause of a failure.

Bug fixes

  • Serial column now appears before the license column in the Licenses window.
  • Improved tabbing between controls in the appointment window.
  • Fixed issue where refreshing the calendar would not always work.
  • Fixed OmniGraffle merge support for OmniGraffle Professional 4.
  • OmniGraffle merge now saves the merged result properly, so the email actions will now work properly.
  • Fixed offline/online sync bug in which a sync failure would be incorrectly reported if a user had certain access restrictions.
  • Added check in database upgrade validation to ensure entered username is valid.
  • Now checks the associated contact name as well as the username when importing the ‘assigned to’ field during import.
  • Removed unused ‘Create Charts’ permission option in the User & Teams preferences.
  • Database upgrades to offline databases will now be allowed to non-admin users.
  • Fixed issue affecting Smart Calendars when deleting the display state.
  • Fixed issue with letter merge where invalid values were being substituted in some rare cases.
  • Added check to prevent rebuilding of quick search index on offline databases to avoid duplicates in quick search results.

Daylite 3.7.1 Released

Posted by Clayton Lewis on February 20, 2008 under Blog Articles, Daylite Tips | Be the First to Comment

Marketcircle has released an update to their Daylite product. This new 3.7.1 version has some nifty calendar updates. Now some folks may say “whoop-de-doo”. Most calendar programs have similar features. But for long-time Daylite devotees, we’re appreciative nonetheless. As always before you apply any updates, be sure to… Sync your Offline databases, devices and backup the database.

Daylite 3.7 and 3.7.1 can co-exist together so no need to update the entire office before trying out the new features.

The new features listed are as follows…

  • Added ability to set either small, regular, or large font for the month view from the General preference pane.
  • Optimized the display of appointment and meeting times to take as little space as possible in the Month view.
  • Added ability to set whether or not the busy bar shows up in the month view (it is turned off by default) from the General preference pane.
  • Automatically setting the complete date on project when the status is set to Done in the card.
  • Automatically setting the complete date on opportunity when the state is set to Won in the card.
  • Added ability for a standard filter to automatically appear when you drag a table into a report. The filter allows you to configure the appearance of the table and the data to be displayed in the table.

Bug fixes listed are…

  • Fixed letter merging for high ASCII and Unicode (though if you want to merge unicode you must ensure that your database encoding is also set to unicode).
  • Fixed a few minor bugs in the reports.
  • Apple Help articles will now properly update themselves from the server if necessary.
  • The month settings in the General preference pane no longer require a restart of daylite in order to take effect.
  • On Leopard, the buttons in the Trash window toolbar now visually show the pressed state properly.
  • Snooze/Dismiss buttons in the Notifications window are now positioned the same as in other types of notifications.
  • Show/Hide Due list menu item no longer causes a crash when the calendar has focus.
  • Changed the location of the online/offline sync logs to be in ~/Library/Logs/Daylite/OnlineOfflineSync.
  • During long online/offline syncs Daylite should no longer beachball and show up as “Not Responding.”
  • Improved support for external and USB modems for dialing phone numbers.

SubTask Timer for Daylite

Posted by Clayton Lewis on January 30, 2008 under Blog Articles, Daylite Tips | Be the First to Comment

As a user of Daylite day in and day out, I’m always tracking my time for certain tasks and billing for that time but I don’t use Billings personally. I typically reach for the Task Timer when I start a phone call or work remotely on a person’s computer. The issue I have is that if I want to stop the timer for any reason and start it up again, I have to make a note of the initial ending time and add it to the ending time of the new timer in my head. Daylite’s Task Timer doesn’t remember where it left off. It just starts the Timer from the beginning. I’ve always wanted something in Daylite that was similiar to what Billings offers as far as tracking multiple timers.

Well, I found it and I can’t believe it took me this long to come across it. Brendan, a user within the Marketcircle forums created a nifty little thing called the SubTask Timer. It looks remarkable similiar to the one within Billings (he may have helped MC create the one in Billings, I don’t know) and functions almost the same way. Here’s how it works.

You first select a task and then select “SubTask Timer” from the Action menu. It brings up a window that is used to start, pause, and stop timing of the selected task. It works by creating a subtask every time you start and pause the timer. The total time for the selected task is calculated by summing up the durations for each of the subtasks. The stop button marks the selected parent task done if all the subtasks are also all done.

To install it, unzip it and put the SubTaskTimer.bundle file into:
~/Library/Application Support/Daylite/PlugIns

note: ~/ means your home folder

There are two versions. Those who are using Daylite 3.6 and higher chose version 3.5 from the download link below

You can download the SubTask Timer here.

I started using this today and it’s worth it’s weight in gold. Thank goodness for Brendan and developers out there like him making our lives a little easier.

From Brendan : I’d also like to thank Guido Neitzer who helped me out with some of the more bizarre Obj-C stuff. And my graphic designer for creating the icons.”

Hi-lights From Macworld – Marketcircle

Posted by Clayton Lewis on January 20, 2008 under Blog Articles, Daylite Tips | Read the First Comment

Marketcircle Tower TopMarketcircle Side of BoothThe folks at Marketcircle were in rare form at Macworld this year. Bringing a brand new booth over twice as big as the last one. One side of the booth was setup to demonstrate certain functions of Daylite, Billings and the Daylite Connectors included reps from Moneyworks, Lightspeed, Filemaker and even Merlin was there.

Marketcirlce ScheduleMarketcircle Presentation1“Mac Business Starts Here” was the mantra of the day as people descended on the booth to get closer glimpse of the newly released Daylite 3.7 and all of the Connectors. Twice a day, the guys various presentations on how to get the best out of their products. I sat in one or two of them and I learned a couple new tricks that had me charged up and ready to work the booth myself. And I got that chance on Thursday afternoon. Armed with an obligatory black t-shirt that had the company logo on the front and the mantra on the back, I was eager and ready to answer anyone’s questions about the products.

Markcircle LinksWorking with the new Daylite Filemaker Connector is a breeze. With ability to push and pull data to and from Daylite will surely expand the capabilities of the program by saving the user double-entry duties.. Same goes with the Lightspeed and Moneyworks Connectors. I don’t use Lightspeed and Moneyworks, respectively but I certainly see how these new connectors benefit the users of said applications.

Daylite Delivery is another new release from MC. Setting this up within the office and installing Delivery on the server makes receiving weekly sales reports a snap. You simply select the report, set the frequency of delivery, the time and which user the report should be emailed to. Reprots are delivered as PDFs and look good in any email account as well as the iPhone.

Marketcircle Back of BoothThe six new database templates give users a great jumping off point. The templates include setups for Sales, Real Estate, Print & Design, Photography, Film & Video, and a general template. Templates include pre-set Categories, Keywords, Pipelines, etc. All which can be furthered customized to suit anyone’s needs. Along with the new templates come 50 new report layouts which satisfy the basic reporting needs of most users.

The new Daylite 3.7 is worth it and if you’re a FileMaker User or a Lightspeed or Moneyworks user…. it’s time to give Daylite a look.
